INTERNATIONAL YOUTH COMPETITION „JAZZ ARTIST 2013“
3 - 4 May
Nõmme Jazz Young Jazz Artists Competition has been going on since 2001 giving young professional musicians international recognition and possibilities to perform at acknowledged jazz festivals abroad.
The Competition serves the aim of making possible the first steps on the way to an international career as well as developing artistic qualities and international relationships with other musicians.
The members of the international jury are representatives of the partner festivals.
Competition 2013 categories are: VOCAL and BASS.
As the vocal category is permanent the instrumental category is subject to change every year.
Participation countries are designated: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Norway, Russia, Turkey.
The deadline for applications is 1 April 2013.
Applicants age limit is 18 – 35 years at the time of the competition.
Some competitors are selected for the contest through local contests and/or by local promoter.
Previous 1st place winners of the competition are not eligible to compete.
Criteria of evaluation: high technical and artistic qualities, interpretation, personality

With application are required:
· 2 audio recordings (disc, mp3). Demo video is not acceptable.
· Portrait picture (high quality portrait at least with resolution 300dpi, or at least 400 – 500 mb, JPG)
· Artist CV (musical background)
· Copy of passport or ID

Admission fee 60 EUR (not refundable) must be transferred to the account of Nõmme Jazz.

The titles of 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners, audience favourite are given by the system of counting points.
Festival engagements are not bound to the results, but are decided by each festival manager.
The competition prizes are performance engagements at the following festivals: Pori Jazz, Turku Jazz, Kaunas Jazz, Rigas Ritmi, Jazzkaar, Juu Jääb; and Nardis Jazz Club in Turkey.
THE FINAL CONTEST
The competitors who have been selected to the international competition will be announced personally and on the web page of Nõmme Jazz on 4 April.
Semi-final – 2 optional songs (preferably of different nature), total duration 10 min.
Final – different songs than presented at semi-final, total duration 12 min
Competitor mus prepare professional music sheets in performance key for the band (4 copies) and upon request to send them to the organizers.
Competitors will be accompanied by a jazz quartet provided by the organizer. Using phonograms or other accompaniment is not allowed (except if vocalist plays an instrument in 1 song).

Accommodation and travel
Accommodation in twin rooms (2 persons in one room), breakfast and lunch for the participants will be guaranteed from (1) 2 – 4May (3 - 4 nights, depending on travel conditions). Accomodation supplied by competition organizer is covered by Nõmme Jazz.
No travel costs will be covered by Nõmme Jazz.

Obligations & rights
The competitors are expected to have an open attitude to media interviews regarding the competition.
The organizer is entitled to disqualify any contestant who does not comply with the rules of the Competition or in the case of contestant’s unacceptable behaviour.
The organizer obtains all rights to audio and video recordings, broadcasts and photographs of the Competition.
· The finalists are commited to perform at the jamsession with at least 1 tune.
